On April 04,2016, DeadMau5 added two more tracks to his ever-growing pile of work on Soundcloud. The first, “Snowcone,” is a five-minute slow-roller heavy on the hip-hop with ice-covered, airy atmospherics and the faintest sounds of children playing in the background.
The second, in classic deadmau5 fashion, is called “Bad at Titles” and is a collaboration with mau5trap up-and-comer Attlas. This track is clearly a joint effort, with an ominous tech-y turn that fans previously heard in mau5’s recent performances at Ultra Miami, and the sprawling, cinematic atmospherics that Attlas incorporates so deftly into his own work. Listen to both songs below.
The latter track is the ultimate co-sign for Attlas, whose career started with the dance music heavyweight last year. Upon remixing “Aural Psynapse” for the label’s We Are Your Friends: Part 3 compilation, the formerly anonymous producer was thought to be the mau5 himself under a new alias until his identity—fellow Canuck Jeff Hartford—was revealed. Considering the soaring profile of former mau5 collaborator Grabbitz, things are certainly looking up for Attlas.
Meanwhile, Deadmau5 is tentatively planning to release a new album sometime this year.
